2nd Kamrup Metro District Inter Club Weightlifting Championship – 2025

The 2nd Kamrup Metro District Inter Club Weightlifting Championship, 2025, was successfully held on 27th July, 2025 at Kharghuli Rajohuwa Field, in collaboration with Deepjyoti Sangha, Kharghuli. The event brought together enthusiastic weightlifters and sports lovers from across Kamrup Metro district.

The programme began at 9:00 AM with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Sri Kalyan Das, President of the Guwahati Tennis Association and a noted tennis player and sports organiser.

This was followed by the formal inauguration of the Championship by Sri Kailash Sharma, Chief Adviser of Kamrup Metro Weightlifting Association and Chief Technical Director of Assam Powerlifting Association. A renowned Powerlifter and Strength Lifter, Mr. Sharma addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech on the growth of weightlifting in Kamrup (M) and Assam.

The official website of Kamrup Metro Weightlifting Association was launched by Sri Ram Pratim Deka, Scientist and Country Head (India) of ILRI. He delivered a speech highlighting the health benefits of weightlifting and scientific approaches to sports training.

Two insightful lectures were also delivered:

• By Dr. Dipankar Bhattacharya, Sports Medicine expert, on doping, supplements, and sports medicine

• By Sri Bhaskar Barman, Advocate and President of the Kamrup Metro Weightlifting Association, on the growth of weightlifting in the district and the vision of the Association

The competitions began at 10:00 AM, with over 60 participants from 9 clubs across different locations in Kamrup (M) District.

A lunch break was observed from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, and the event concluded with a vibrant cultural performance and prize distribution ceremony at 8:30 PM. Distinguished guests, dignitaries, and participants were felicitated during the closing ceremony.
